Sarah Florence Garner was born October 17, 1907 in Sparta, Georgia.
On June 24, 1934 at the age of 23, she married Chief Patterson Garner. About a year later she transferred her membership
to Buford First United Methodist Church and became very active in the church's programs and committees, including the Carrie
Stringer Circle.
Mrs. Garner graduated from the 10th District Agricultural School in Granite Hill and received her
B.S. degree in home economics from the University of Georgia. She taught school in Clarksville, Sugar Hill, Gwinnett
County, and Buford.
She was a very dedicated member of her church and her community until her death on January 17th, 2001
at the age of 94. Her years of thoughtfulness and service touched many lives. She and her husband had two adopted
children, Pat, a local attorney, and Mary Ann, and four grandchildren.
On October 1, 1997 the Florence Garner Circle was established in honor of Mrs. Garner's life-long
commitment to service. The Florence Garner Circle's first slate of officers was Susan Kendrick-Lauhoff as Leader, Heather
Howington as Co-Leader, Charlotte Trawick as Secretary and Mickey Nielson and Treasurer.
